LInkedIn’s new feature boosts your visibility

linkedin posts

LinkedIn’s new feature boosts your visibility with  a new way for you to more easily connect with your connections and potentially with the over 277 million other members.

How do you do this? It’s quite simple.  All you need to do is to share your valuable knowledge and insights in a post on LinkedIn.  No longer do you need to privately message each connection individually.

Now when you publish a post on LinkedIn, your content that you’ve posted automatically becomes part of your professional profile and is shared with your network of connections. It now also has the ability to reach the largest group of professionals on any one single social media platform.

I’ve long said that LinkedIn is very similar to FaceBook except that it is for business rather than personal connections. LinkedIn has now made a change very similar to what happens on Facebook.  You can now follow other LinkedIn members who’re not part of your network.   On the flip side, this also allows you to begin to  build an audience of followers who are not yet connected to you!

This doesn’t replace the capability to share and showcase your expertise using  platforms such as SlideShare and YouTube. But, it’s a welcome addition with high visibility that simply adds to the power and presence of your LinkedIn Profile.

When will I be able to use this new LinkedIn functionality?

Not everyone will have this capability immediately as LinkedIn is ‘phasing it in’. They are allowing 25,000 LinkedIn members to begin right away. If you’re not in that group, keep watching until they get around to you. Once you have this capability, you’ll be able to publish content and gain high visibility much more easily than ever before.

How does it work?

If you’ve been frustrated by restrictions on post length, this is great news as the new functionality allows for lingers posts.  The subject matter should highlight your expertise, and be helpful to your audience. Once you’ve published the post on LinkedIn, your connections and the LinkedIn community are able to see what you’ve posted. Anyone who checks out your profile will also see this post there – so be sure that it’s meaningful.

Powerful posting practices:

You now have an opportunity to make a much greater impact. Conversely, you also have a much greater opportunity for a big faux pas. So think about what you’re posting.

  • Be sure to create content that is both interesting and useful to your audience. Especially ‘how to’s’ and educational material.
  • Build your audience and authority with consistent and regular posts.  A single post now and again won’t do much for your profile.  Frequent high quality posts will build your authority and credibility.
  • Longer is better, but how long is optimum?  Research shows that the most read posts are more than 3 paragraphs long.
  • Add visual impact  Just as with a blog post, a Facebook post or almost every other kind of social media post, adding visual impact will help. So add images, videos, slide shows etc whenever you can.
  • How do I know how popular my posts are?  Easlly… there’s a feature to provide email reports  giving analytics including page views, likes, followers and other information that will help you tweak your content over time.

Happy LinkedIn posting!  Keep an eye on your email for notification on when this will be available to you.
